The 2013-14 school year is off to a great start. One week ago today, we had many new parents and students at the new family orientation. After the introduction of key people and essential information about St. John’s, the students were shown around by returning students. The Welcome Committee had a full program for the parents as well to help facilitate their integration into the school.
On Thursday, we welcomed back all the returning students in grades 1-12 to officially start the 2013-14 school year. We also opened CUB Care, our before and after school service for the first time. Friday was the first day of school for the youngest students in Pre-K and Kindergarten, as well as the day Timbertots (our new program for kids 2 ½ years of age and up) opened its doors.
On Saturday, we had the Elementary School uniform sale and Green & White Day, the start to the fall sports season. Middle and High School students participated in tryouts for soccer, volleyball and cross country.
A new event this year was the Welcome Back BBQ, organized by the Community Core Committee for all St. John’s families and staff. The large turnout, combined with predicted rain making room for sunshine, made for a very enjoyable afternoon of community building.
We think the students have also enjoyed their first week back, judging from the many happy faces in the classrooms, halls and playgrounds!
