Last week students from Grade 2 held their second “Healthy Snack Shop” at recess where Elementary Students were invited to buy fresh food and yummy treats for a small sum. St. John’s is the #1 International Schools Sports Tournament (ISST) sports program out of 22 member international schools in Europe, Egypt and Israel, for the school year 2014-15, taking into account High School enrollment. The school ranks 5th in the overall standings, as one of the smaller school participating in ISSTs. This ranking confirms again the excellent reputation St. John’s and its sports program have in Europe. As a part of the Media Studies course, students visited nWave studios to explore and observe the makings of 3D animation feature films. They engaged in conversations with professional animators, modelling artists, texture designers and directors. They got a sneak preview of the latest blockbuster of the studio. Some 300 alumni of St. John’s International School were back on campus this past weekend to attend the 50th anniversary alumni reunion. Three days of festivities and activities brought many former students from as far back as 1974 back to Waterloo and to the school they still have such a strong connection with. The DELF (Diplômes d’Etudes en Langue Française) is an official certificate, issued by the French ministry of education, to certify French skills of foreign candidates. It covers four levels, from A1 to B2, defined by the Common European Framework of Reference for languages. St. John’s is the only international school in the Brussels area to offer the DELF exam and served as an examination center and hosted the exam session for students in grade 9 and grade 10, at different levels: A2 (elementary), B1 (intermediate) and B2 (upper intermediate). Our Grade 10 and 11 Business students had the luxury of meeting one of our very successful alumni, Wende Zomnir, Founder and Chief Creative Director at Urban Decay cosmetics yesterday. Wende founded Urban Decay in 1995 and the successful company was bought by L’Oreal two years ago. Wende came back to campus for the first time since graduating from St. John’s in 1985 to share her knowledge with the students.
