St. John’s athletes shine in spring ISST tournaments


This past weekend, the International School Sports Tournaments (ISST) took place for the St. John’s spring sports teams: Track and Field, Baseball, Softball, Tennis and Golf. Three of the five teams finished in 2nd place and the Track & Field and Tennis teams also won many individual medals. A very successful weekend for the St. John’s LIONS!

Golf – our golf team, which has four players with a single handicap, traveled to Vienna with coach Jerome Theunis (who also coaches Belgium’s top golfer Nicolas Colsaerts). They achieved 2nd place as a team and won the girls individual gold medal (which was 2nd overall in combined boys and girls individual).

Tennis  – the tennis team traveled to Cobham, England, for their tournament. They finished in second place as a team. They also achieved individual success  with a Girls doubles gold medal, Boys doubles silver medal, Boys singles bronze medal, Girls overall bronze medal, and Boys overall gold.SOFTBALL

Softball – our softball team reached the finals at their tournament in Hillingdon, England, after winning all their games leading up to the final. They achieved second place, with two St. John’s athletes selected for the all-tournament team.

Baseball – the baseball team traveled to TASIS in England, and had a very successful tournament. In the end, they came in 4th place, with 3 St. John’s athletes selected for the all-tournament team.


Track and Field –  St. John’s hosted the track and field ISST, together with ISB, in Leuven. The Junior Varsity Boys claimed the third place trophy, Junior Varsity Girls placed second, Varsity Boys won second place and overall St. John’s came in 4th place out of 12 teams.

The team also won numerous individual medals: 6 gold, 8 silver and 5 bronze.

We are extremely proud of the achievements of our athletes. Congratulations to all athletes and their coaches on their sportsmanship, team spirit and athletic excellence displayed during the tournaments. Go LIONS!
