The fall ISST tournaments showed the high level of competition of the St. John’s fall sports teams. Both the cross country and boys soccer teams won last year’s ISST championship to promote to Division 1. Competition in division 1 is fierce and most schools are substantially bigger than St. John’s. The main goal for our boys and girls volleyball, boys soccer and cross country teams was to stay in the division 1. Our girls soccer team is in Division 2 and had higher aspirations, perhaps even a top 3 finish.
In the end, the fall ISSTs were very successful for our teams: Boys volleyball showed great spirit and determination at their home tournament and finished in 6th place. Girls volleyball fought hard but was unable to maintain their place in Division 1. Boys soccer beat several of the bigger schools to end in 6th place and won the sportsmanship award in the process.
The cross country team took no less than 33% of the individual medals, winning 2 of the 4 divisions (JV Boys and Varsity Girls), winning silver in the JV Girls and bronze in Varsity Girls with many of the runners on the team scoring personal best time. A great tournament for our cross country team!
Finally, our girls soccer team almost made it to the final, losing only on penalties. They easily won the third place game and come home with the bronze – an excellent result!
We congratulate all our athletes and coaches on their achievements and their sportsmanship!
