St. John’s sports teams excel around Europe

stj_lions_circleThe winter season has come to an end for our basketball and swim teams. The teams competed at the ISST’s, with swimming staying in Brussels, the girls basketball team traveling to London and the boys basketball team competing in Vienna. Here are the final results from the championships:

Varsity Girls: The team played through injuries and very tough first round opponents to place 5th overall. Gabriella 2nd.JPGwas named to the All-Tournament team.

Varsity Boys: The team played well the entire tournament and gained promotion to Division 1 with a dominating and big win in the semi-finals. The fought hard but lost the final to Cairo, taking home the second place trophy. Alejandro and Fahim were named to the All–Tournament team.

Our swim team gave it their all with impressive results:
Cyril won the U14 200m individual medley.
Soraya placed 3rd in the U18 100m freestyle.
Josefine placed 3rd in the U18 200m individual medley.
Our boys 200m freestyle relay team placed 7th.
STJ finished 6th in JV boys, 6th in Varsity girls, 9th in Varsity boys and 10th overall out of 14 teams.
