We want to say a huge thank you to everyone for helping to make our first Relay Recess such an amazing event. “If a picture is worth a thousand words” the photographs and video clips on the St. John’s Facebook page tell all.
The morning was a time for learning, with teachers presenting workshops delivering the ‘wellness/health’ material. When we came by, students looked engaged, excited and focused on what was being delivered in the most creative way. The presentation from the Foundation against Cancer/Relay for Life in the PAC theater was very age and stage appropriate, and the Grade 5’s singing right after was one of the ‘goose bumps’ moments of our day.
The afternoon was filled with determination, excitement, and spontaneous fun as we could see from the enjoyment on the children’s faces. It was special to have the Grade 10’s from Dr. Doyle’s classes interact and support our students. During the second round of running, we saw many of these students encouraging and supporting the younger ones. Of course the ‘Wobble’ and the popsicles were the cherry on the top at the end of an exciting day!
Special mention to the TT team for their organisation in a parallel program for the TimberTops children.
We are very pleased to announce that the event has raised €4,500 so far, and that’s before we add in the sponsor donations from the Relay itself, and there are still some events to come!
Each €1000 raised will send a child with cancer to summer camp. An amazing result for the ES students!
