Our Grade 11 and 12 students participated in a half-day life skills workshop today. External presentations. featuring experts from the corporate and sports world, came in to present on specific topics. After the exams last week, it was time for the students to focus on other important matters that help them succeed, including life skills.
Mrs. Devaney, Regional Treasurer at Mastercard Europe (and St. John’s parent) spoke about personal finance with our grade 11 and 12 students.
We were delighted to welcome Michael Devlin, class of 1975, back to campus to speak on the topic of communications. He spoke about articulating ideas and thoughts, presenting information and other useful communications skills.
Mr. Spiller from The Walt Disney Co. fascinated the students with a speech about presenting yourself, how to conduct yourself in job interviews, your personal brand and other skills to be successful in business.
Jerome Theunis, professional golf coach and coach of the St. John’s golf team, discussed mental strengths and achieving goals with our students, providing tips on setting realistic goals, how to deal with adversity and how to channel stress and nerves in a positive way.
A real treat at the end of the life skills workshop was the appearance of Justine Henin, tennis legend, former no. 1 in the world and 7-time Grand Slam winner, who joined the students for a Question & Answer session on motivation and resilience. Her life story and road to success was inspirational and her tips for students were very relevant and useful for this age group.
