Grade 11 History students conduct research at British Library

Yesterday, Grade 11  history students visited the British Library and the School of Oriental and African Studies (SOAS) in London accompanied by Mrs. Richardson and Mr. Macdonald. The students were able to spend the day researching in the reading rooms of the British Library or using the resources at SOAS. The students received a tour of the archive and were able to do research there. Both groups of students were gathering resources for the IB Extended Essay. The British Library has a copy of virtually every book ever published and the range of material available at SOAS far exceeds anything we have here in Belgium.

It was an exciting day for the students who had, for their age group, a unique learning experience – whether in the British Library’s reading rooms or the SOAS archive.

Our aim is that the students receive not only first-rate support from their supervisors but also have access to the most desirable resources in the process of researching and writing their Extended Essays.  The trip to London exemplifies student learning  experiences outside the classroom.
