Mother’s Day Celebration in Kindergarten

Kindergarten has a year-long Unit of Inquiry, entitled “Changes Everywhere”.  It is an inquiry into the earth’s natural cycles and how it influences our lives.  The children have been watching the TimberTops Garden and noticing the changes happening during the seasons.  They also discovered that we have different celebrations in each season.

We celebrated Mother’s Day as a spring celebration.  The children used the rhubarb that had grown in our garden to make rhubarb strawberry bars to share with the moms.  Each child painted a portrait of their mother and wrote a small poem with the title “The Most Important Thing About my Mom”. Here is one example:

My Mom
The most important thing about my mom is that she loves me.
She has blue eyes.
She has a big mouth.
She lets me have sleepovers.
But the most important thing about my mom is that she loves me.

They shared their poems, sang a song and enjoyed their spring snack together.
